Dear Customer Service

My name is Andy Dufresne, you may remember me as the guy from the Shawshank Redemption movie and how I battled and fought for books for the library which became the Brooks Hatlen Memorial Library in Shawshank State.

I am now Lawdit Solicitor’s Stay Legal’s online consumer champion and I am writing to you in connection with the awful state of the Wi-Fi on your trains and in particular the availability and reliability of the Wi-Fi service provided on Southwestern Railway. I have regularly experienced issues connecting to or maintaining a stable Wi-Fi connection during my journeys from Southampton to Waterloo which has impacted my travel experience.

To help understand my options and clarify the service terms, could you kindly provide responses to the following questions:

  1. Is Wi-Fi included in the ticket price?
Could you confirm whether the cost of my ticket covers access to Wi-Fi, or if it is considered an optional service that may not be guaranteed?
  2. What are the terms and limitations of the Wi-Fi service?
Are their specific conditions or disclaimers about Wi-Fi availability that limit Southwestern Railway’s responsibility for connectivity issues?
  3. How does Southwestern Railway address frequent Wi-Fi outages?
What measures are in place to monitor and improve Wi-Fi reliability for passengers? Are you actively working to enhance connectivity on trains that experience frequent outages?
  4. Compensation or Refund Policy
If the Wi-Fi is unavailable or unreliable on a particular journey, is there a policy for compensating passengers? If so, could you provide details on the process for claiming compensation?
  5. Advertising Standards and Service Commitments
Given that Wi-Fi is often advertised as part of the Southwestern Railway travel experience, what standards do you commit to regarding its availability and reliability? What should passengers expect in terms of service quality?
  6. Contact for Escalating Issues
If Wi-Fi disruptions are persistent, is there a specific team or contact person within Southwestern Railway who addresses these types of service concerns?

Thank you for your attention to these questions. I look forward to your responses and hope for a clearer understanding of the Wi-Fi service offered

Andy Defresne
